Grinnell XCTF would like to remember George Drake ’56. President Emeritus and Professor Emeritus George Drake was a huge part of many Grinnellians’ lives as a mentor, colleague, advisor, volunteer, and student-athlete. Specifically, as an athlete at Grinnell, Drake led the XC team to its first-ever conference championship, finishing 2nd individually. Drake qualified and finished 49th at nationals that same year. On the track, Drake was a 2-time conference mile champion and led the track team to a conference championship with his 440-yard dash win. Drake was a long-time supporter of the XCTF programs and was inducted into the GC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002. Thank you, George Drake!
