From January to March, when the forest has dropped its leaves and turned brown, the Flame of the Forest does something incredible. It covers itself in blazing orange-vermillion flowers on completely bare branches. Also known by names: Palash. Dhak. Tesu. Now here’s the interesting part: The Palash doesn’t give up its nectar easily. It hides it deep inside parrot-shaped petals. Only the Purple Sunbird has the right beak to unlock it, landing on the flower, triggering the petals apart, getting dusted with pollen in exchange.
