As we close out our
#BlackMusicMonth series, sit back, relax, and take in
@harpista’s beautiful rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
“I was inspired to record ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ because it is such an integral part of our American culture. Although this is an instrumental version, the lyrics (originally a poem) reflect so much that represents the plight and triumph of Black Americans; Unity, Struggle, Perseverance, and Hope. I arranged it for harp in hopes of both introducing more people to the beautiful work and inspiring more harpists to perform it. Dezron Douglas (
@dezthought) and I started our Patreon page together in 2020 — during the height of this pandemic — and had no idea how much the platform and our incredible supporters would help us both grow as artists and educators. We're thankful for this room to take risks and branch out beyond our norm!”
