During the House Oversight Committee meeting on Feb. 9, Republican Mike Schietzelt took it upon himself to remind Sheriff McFadden repeatedly, that he was not part of the committee’s “chain of command". Between interruptions, Rep. Schietzelt accused the Sheriff of arriving to the meeting with “hubris and bluster", all while delivering his own remarks with a rather rudely critical tone. At several points, Rep. Schietzelt advised the Sheriff to go back and speak with his county representatives and consult the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association should he have concerns - clearly shutting down the Sheriff's desire to work together with the committee. Each time the Sheriff attempted to respond, he was cut off, creating less of a dialogue and more of a lecture. The optics?
