From the shores of Tripoli, to the decks of USS Constitution, to the black sands of Iwo Jima and to the front lines today, Marines have stood ready to fight.
On Feb. 19, 1945, U.S. forces began the Battle of Iwo Jima, launching 36 days of fierce combat that would become one of the most pivotal and hard fought battles of World War II. The courage and sacrifice displayed there remain etched in our nation’s history.
More than a century earlier, Marines of the United States Marine Corps served aboard Constitution during the War of 1812, manning the fighting tops, guarding the ship and fighting alongside Sailors in her legendary victories at sea.
Across centuries and battlefields, the mission remains the same: honor, courage and commitment. Semper Fidelis.
