LISTEN: Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports, Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, grew emotional as she paid tribute to the late Cat Coore, reflecting on a bond that transcended politics. “I deeply feel and I’m really saddened by the passing of Cat… and Sly Dunbar,” she said. “It was very difficult for me to be here this morning… so if I appear a little emotional, please forgive me. But Cat, we miss you.” The minister shared that despite political differences over the years, their friendship was never divided. “Even though the political divide existed, the politics would not impact our relationship.” She also highlighted Coore’s far-reaching impact on Jamaica’s music industry from elevating reggae on the global stage to his involvement in events like Reggae Sunsplash. Though composed, Grange was visibly moved as she honoured a musician whose legacy carried Jamaica’s sound to the four corners of the world.
