Happy birthday, Aminah Robinson. Your bright and beautiful art will forever live in our hearts!
The columbusmuseum of Art places Aminah Robinson “in the pantheon of the most important twentieth and twenty-first-century American artists.”
Born in Columbus on February 18, 1940, she created art to “[fill] in the blank pages of American history” by depicting the lives and events of both ordinary and extraordinary African Americans.
She was commissioned in 1990 to create a unique work of art for Columbus Metropolitan Library. Her murals, titled "Life in Sellsville" and "Life in the Blackberry Patch", feature memories of the historic Columbus neighborhoods.
Aminah Robinson died in 2015 at age 75. Her enormous legacy lives on.
