It takes a village to raise a child, the adage goes. Now French startup Commune is embedding that philosophy into a new project to build two co-living spaces in and around Paris. Designed specifically for single parents and their children, the furnished residences will be chock-full of family-friendly features that aim to alleviate common parenting pressures—and create a sense of community.
Project specs include a shared playroom, along with a full kitchen and common areas open to all residents. The result will be “a real little paradise for single parents,” says Tara Heuzé-Sarmini, co-founder and CEO of Commune.
The project could also provide a more stable financial future for the 1 in 3 single-parent families living in Paris and the surrounding area: Commune estimates residents will save 25% on average compared to conventional housing.
The first space is slated to be completed this year, with the company planning to expand the concept to 500 buildings within the next decade. An...
