The three things that separate good and great college linebackers for me. 1.) Toughness - The word linebacker has a connotation for a reason. The best linebackers don’t talk tough. They are tough. They get a reputation through their actions: Urlacher, Ray Lewis, and Lawrence Taylor all had different approaches to the position, but they had that one thing in common. They were tough. 2.) Quickness - This one applies more in 2022 than it ever has. It’s part instinct. It’s part athletic ability. It’s part film study. Quick wins. 3.) Zone Coverage - Another newer one. The pass game has never been more prevalent, so zone coverage linebackers have never been more important.
