If you would’ve told 19 year-old me what I was doing at 27, the gut reaction would definitely be disbelief or denial. To perform at a high level as an athlete, you need to be singularly focused. There’s a great Trevor Moawad quote: “Most people don’t aim too high and miss. They aim too low and hit.” I got to be a Division I football player partially because that wasn’t the goal. Being great in the NFL was the goal, and I was focused solely on that. So yeah, 19 year old me would need some time to adjust to the news that I’m not signing my second contract in the league right now.
