Meet Dave, the newest resident of the Reptiles Home at Your Birmingham Zoo! 🐍🌲 Dave is a pine snake, a master of hide-and-seek, native to the pine forests of the Eastern United States. He spends most of his time underground in cozy burrows, only coming out for a little adventure. Did you know? When threatened, pine snakes put on quite a show! They hiss loudly and rattle their tails in the leaves to scare off predators. Their scientific name, *Pituophis melanoleucus*, says it all: “pine snake” with striking “black and white” patterns.
