“I’ve been trying to create scenes which are often characterised by the grotesque, the uncanny or even strangeness”
Living and working in Masvingo, Zimbabwe, Felix Shumba’s (shumbafelix) multidisciplinary practice engages with masking, concealment and the deconstruction of real and imagined spaces. Felix uses dystopian imagery to address the performative rituals of power that have perpetuated racial capitalist extraction. At the core of his practice is a probing of the stakes, the hidden truths, and the ongoing struggles for freedom in the face of historical violence.
Felix is one of the talents featured in the Rabanne Talents program. Rabanne and Gasworks London come together to inspire and support emerging artists through dialogue and the dissemination of content.
Felix Shumba’s Gasworks residency was supported by the Artworkers Retirement Society.
