marykimtitla 👇🏽 This is in memory of a beautiful young Apache girl, 14-year-old #EmilyPike. A little more than a year ago she disappeared from a Mesa group home and tragically, her remains were found outside her homeland, the San Carlos Apache Reservation, a place she longed to be. I spoke to a reporter recently about what has transpired since then (link below). There is more #MMIWG awareness and a new safety alert system, but her case remains a cold case, a terribly sad norm in Indian country. The song in the video is an Apache song shared a year ago at the site she was last seen. Emily grew up near Apache ceremonial grounds, where she heard these songs quite often. The sharing of this song for Emily deeply touched my heart. It symbolizes our cultural identity, resilience, and hope. So meaningful.
