š¢ Giant tortoises are back on Floreana Island for the first time in more than a century. Ecuador has reintroduced 158 tortoises to the Galapagos island, where the native species was driven to extinction in the 1800s. Rangers carried the animals across volcanic terrain before releasing them into the wild. Each tortoise was microchipped and quarantined before the journey. Officials say the species plays a crucial role in restoring the islandās ecosystem. #Galapagos #Ecuador #Wildlife #Conservation #Environment
