China’s UN envoy has said Japan is ‘not qualified’ to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Speaking at the UN, Fu Cong said Security Council reform must not turn the body into ‘a club of the rich and the big,’ and called for greater representation for developing countries, especially in Africa. He accused Japan of failing to reflect on its history and said such a country ‘has no qualification’ to seek a permanent seat.
