With the fifth overall pick the #CBJ selected Kent Johnson. Johnson is one of the most polarizing players in this class, mostly because of his high end skill but poor decision making and offensive efficiency. Offensively Johnson possesses elite puck skills, good skating, and is one of more shifty players to come out of the draft in the past few years. He is able to create so much space for himself using his problem solving ability, hands, edges, and elusiveness. Johnson is also very impressive at getting open in high danger areas and scored a handful of goals finding open ice, a very translatable tool. So, why isn’t he widely considered a top 5 player in this class? There are glaring problems in Johnson’s offensive game that may hold him back at the NHL level.
