Mason McTavish, selected 3rd overall by Anaheim, is a hard-nosed forward who does his best work below the opposition goal line and in front of the net. McTavish played in Switzerland this season with the OHL shut down, and he fit in immediately. He played more on the wing than he did at center, and that may be where he plays at the NHL level because his strong frame and physical tendencies allow him to win puck battles and get zone exits by imposing his presence on attackers up and down the boards. Offensively, McTavish is a player with great hockey sense who gets tons of high danger chances by playing between checks and being an option, which he combines with a lethal shot that can be snapped off quickly. He is dangerous around the slot and has an impressive ability to maneuver around stick checks which allow him to find open space.
