More than 350 adorable alpacas competed in McMinnville to see who had the fiercest fleece at the Columbia Alpaca Breeders Association's 2023 CABA Classic and Alpaca Western Extravaganza Dual Show at the Yamhill County Fairgrounds.
Alpacas are considered great pets, known for their gentle and curious demeanor. They’re cousins to the llama, which they’re often mistaken for, but are usually smaller. They’re known for bodies that are rounder than those of llamas, who have blockier heads too.
There are no wild alpacas in the world; they are considered domesticated animals. However, they aren’t solitary and prefer to live with other alpacas or goats and sheep.
They’re known for their curious and gentle demeanor, despite having a reputation for spitting. While alpacas can spit, they do it only as a defense mechanism if threatened.
