In a new biography, Pope Leo XIV has signalled that any immediate shift in Catholic teaching on sexuality and marriage is unlikely. Speaking with Vatican journalist Elise Ann Allen for the book 'Pope Leo XIV – The Biography', the pontiff says it is “very unlikely, at least in the near future,” that Church doctrine will change on LGBT+ issues. Echoing the language of his predecessor Pope Francis, particularly the widely quoted “todos, todos” (everyone, everyone), Leo XIV emphasises that, everyone is welcome as 'the individual', but not as an affirmation of their identity. The Pope also acknowledges that conversations about LGBTQ+ people remain “highly polarising” within the global Church.
