🏔️ Celebrating a new protected treasure in Peru!
The new Ausangate Private Conservation Area protects over 31,700 acres (12,800 hectares) of Andean ecosystems — including Cusco’s highest and most sacred peak, the majestic Ausangate Mountain.
This extraordinary puna grassland landscape is home to threatened species, including Andean Cat, numerous Andean frog species, and the iconic Vicuña.
Backed by the Ausangate Campesino Community, this protected area safeguards vital water sources for the people of Ocongate and Tinki, while conserving cultural heritage that has been honored for generations. 🌱 This new protected area will advance Peru’s firm commitment to protect more than 30% of its terrestrial ecosystems by 2030.
