Strike a pose 🦚 This image snapped by NASAChandraxray contains an exceptionally massive spiral galaxy. Known as NGC 6872, this galaxy is found in the constellation Pavo, or the Peacock, and is located about 300 million light-years from Earth. This behemoth measures about 522,000 light-years across, which is over five times the width of our Milky Way galaxy. A much smaller galaxy is visible near the center of this image. This galaxy passed through NGC 6872 more than 100 million years ago—helping give it the unusual shape it has today. Image description: The galaxy NGC 6872 dominates the scene.
