#WNBA champion #KaraBraxton has passed away at just 43 years old. The WNBA announced the heartbreaking news on Sunday, Feb. 22, posting on X, “It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of 2x WNBA Champion Kara Braxton.” No cause of death has been released. Braxton spent 10 seasons in the league, playing for the Detroit Shock, Tulsa Shock, Phoenix Mercury, and New York Liberty. A dominant presence in the paint, she earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors in 2002 at the University of Georgia and went on to become a WNBA All-Star in 2007. Beyond basketball, she was a proud mother of two sons, Jelani Thurman, who played on Ohio State’s 2024 national championship football team, and Jream Jackson. Our thoughts are with Kara’s family, friends, former teammates, and everyone impacted by her legacy during this difficult time. 🕊️
