Betty Stepp has lived in Anawalt, West Virginia, for all of her 76 years. The area was once a major coal producer, with a school, a theater, and a doctor in town. Today, the only business left is Tom and Donald’s mechanic shop. Stepp says she now drives 45 minutes just to buy milk. Stepp is a retired teacher’s aide living on a fixed income. She says she has cut back on beef, chicken, and vegetables. #westvirginia #appalachia #ruralamerica #coal
