Tonight, my heart is heavy as I say goodbye to a man who was the definition of strength: my grandfather, Cappy. Cappy was a veteran who carried that sense of duty and resilience into everything he did. He was my greatest inspiration to never give up and to keep pushing, no matter what . Because my parents lost their own fathers at a young age, I grew up without grandfathers…until Cappy stepped in. When my brother and I were young we never knew the impact of the nickname we gave you “Cappy” when you picked us up that day from summer camp. As I got older I learned that people would be so disrespectful and racist to you and call you mean nicknames.
