China’s newest aircraft carrier, the Fujian, marks a major technological leap in the country’s naval development. Experts say it is the world’s first conventionally powered carrier equipped with electromagnetic catapults — a breakthrough that significantly enhances aircraft launch efficiency and combat capability.
Independently designed and built in China, the Fujian was commissioned in November last year and bears the hull number 18. It now operates alongside China’s two other active carriers, the Liaoning and the Shandong.
