Today we’re highlighting the achievements of the Godmother of Rock and Roll, Sister Rosetta Tharpe. An American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Sister Rosetta Tharpe rose to fame in the 1930’s and 1940’s with her gospel music. She was the first major recording star in gospel music, and her unique combination of spiritual lyrics and electric guitar allowed her to appeal to both rhythm, blues, and rock and roll audiences.
