Wilhelm Cederroth was diagnosed with dementia at 12 years old. His parents are still hunting for answers.
“No one could find anything. Samples were sent all over the world, but no one could find an answer, and Wilhelm died when he was 16 years old.”
Wilhelm and 2 of his siblings, Hugo and Emma, suffered from a rare disease that had no name, let alone a cure. They all died within 3 years of each other.
“It’s hard, but if you have an undiagnosed child or if you are undiagnosed yourself … never give up.”
The Cederroths founded the Wilhelm Foundation (
@wilhelmfoundation) to prevent this from happening to other families. Through collaborative gatherings like the global Undiagnosed Hackathon, which brings together multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, researchers, scientists, developers and patients, they are accelerating the pace of scientific discovery to find diagnoses for not only the disease that affected their kids but all rare diseases.
