At about 10 micrometers wide, this logo is TINY. Scientists at the Imaging Institute used a plasma-focused ion beam (think: very precise laser) to etch it. The laser is normally used to shave away parts of a cell to create a thin window. From there, a cryo transmission electron microscope can capture incredible views of small molecules inside the cell! This process allows us to see the building blocks of life in extraordinary detail and gets us closer to understanding the mysteries of the cell so that we can work towards new treatments and cures for disease. If you could etch something this small what would it be? #science #microscopic #microscope #cryo #biology
