💙This
#ManateeMonday, we want you to meet the two newest patients in our David A Straz, Jr. Manatee Critical Care Center! 💙
Manatee calves are completely dependent on their mothers for survival, which is why these lone calves needed to be rescued. Our friends at FWC rescue calves if no mother is found within a few hours of them being spotted. ⏳️
Our first arrival, currently the lighter of the two calves, is named Biscayne after Biscayne Bay where they were rescued. 🏖️ The second calf was rescued in a residential area in Englewood, Florida. 🏡 As one of two facilities in the United States that can take in and care for orphaned manatee calves, we are grateful for the opportunity to rehabilitate these individuals. 🫶
Please join us on our journey to raise these calves and set them up for success for their eventual release back out into Florida’s waterways! 🌊
You can help save manatees by reporting sick and injured manatees immediately to FWC at
