In late 2020 I knew I was moving to Alaska and I was worried. I had never moved away from Louisiana, and had never experienced winter, snow, or anything of that nature. Mix that with being locked inside and I got antsy to photograph my friends before I was gone for 3 years. This project turned into The Yellow Chair Series. Now over 5 years later, Yellow Chair, has evolved into a long term look at Chosen Family within the Katrina Generation of New Orleanians. There is so much Katrina scholarship (trust me) and much of it foregrounds the now 50-70-year-olds, a lot of the research focuses on neoliberal intervention into the city’s public services, but often backgrounded are New Orleanians real experience, and my generation has been entirely unrecognized beside for Edward Buckles’ HBO Hit, Katrina Babies.
