🐎 Stock Show Through the Decades: 1906–1916 🐂 After a record breaking 120th anniversary of the National Western Stock Show, we are taking you back in time through the last 120 years, decade by decade. It all began with a bold idea. In January 1906, six major agricultural groups gathered in Denver—including the National Livestock Association, American Stock Growers Association, National Wool Growers Association, Colorado Cattle and Horse Growers Association, Colorado Horticultural Society, and Colorado State Forestry Association. Seeing the opportunity, Elias M. Ammons proposed a stock show to unite the industry. With support from Denver Union Stock Yard Company president George W. Ballantine and Record-Stockman publisher Fred P. Johnson, the first event, called the Western Live Stock Show, opened its gates.
