Medical residency 101 !! Early on, residents rotate through different specialties to become well-rounded physicians and surgeons and gain an understanding of Hospital systems and how specialties interact with each other 🤝
Later on residents rotate through all of the different subspecialties within their field to help guide their career trajectory into further specialization (fellowship) or become a well-rounded general practitioner of that sub specialty (think general neurologist vs movement disorders specialist)
As a Psychiatry resident I started out my intern (first) year with 3 months of internal medicine, 1 month of Emergency medicine, 1 month of consult Neurology, and 1 month of stroke/general neurology !
Lmk what other questions you guys have :)
I also have an MCAT guide linked to my bio for any premeds starting out on their journey!
