making an effort to post both the good and bad of residency because I know my vlogs make it seem like I have this perfectly balanced life. The reality is residency sometimes sucks. we can be forced to work literally any time over the entire year. we make close to minimum wage, typically working 60 -80 hrs a week (surgery friends sometimes hitting 100hrs), and carry an incredible mental load after starting a new rotation on inpatient consults this week and having 2 ED consult shifts back to back I am feeling so burnt out, and I’m only at 62 hours this week 😅 I also think I’ve seen some really hard cases this week both in terms of medical and emotional complexity.
