Over the years I’ve noticed my mental health peaks when I’m consistently working out. At the gym, @B/SPOKE Studios in particular, I can let go of the stress I carry with me through life / medical school. When I walk into this space, I stop thinking about the hundreds of things I need to do outside of my workout, and spend an hour focused only on me. In the spin/yoga studios there are no phones; only music, only movement, only teamwork. Each person next to me in class is a badass, and I’m incredibly inspired by the community around me. Indoor cycling is a meditative experience for me. The lights and music while I push my body to extremes of endurance makes me feel so incredibly strong. This carries into my life outside of fitness too; I’ve learned to push myself through discomfort because I know the work is worth it. My sense of self-efficacy is built in the gym, and has been ever since I was competitive gymnast. I feel so grateful every day to be able to move my body. If you’re looking...
