There is nothing worse than pouring your soul into something, only to come up short. ‘Super heroes’ carry a burden that no one can truly understand. They’re imperfect. Deeply flawed. Messy. They leave everything out there. I remember sitting in my car, by myself, crying for 10 minutes after seeing ‘Logan.’ It felt awful. I remember watching Andrew Garfield play Peter Parker - when he couldn’t save Gwen. He held more power in his palms than anyone one of us in that moment could ever have, but he couldn’t save her. The moment was bigger than him. The disbelief on his face. Shock. Denial. The realization. The helplessness. The loss. The whole gamut of flawed, illogical, human emotion in less than a few minutes. Oof. It’s hard to watch. It hurts. But we need to believe in something for the triumphs to mean anything. Peter Parker goes on. Spider-Man HAS to be “Spider-Man” because the alternative is a bunch of people suffering. And we trust he will be there for us when we really need him....
