BREAKING NEWS: A New York State Department of Transportation worker, Randolph Acum, was seriously injured while responding to a crash on the Long Island Expressway when an alleged drunk driver, Joseph Kalinowski, struck him in Holtsville, police said. According to investigators, the DOT employee was responding to an overturned vehicle on the highway between Exits 62 and 63 around 9:40 p.m. Thursday. Suffolk County police said Acum was placing traffic cones in the roadway when a car struck the worker and crashed around 10:30 p.m. Suffolk County police charged Kalinowski with one count of driving while intoxicated.
