Charlie Munger didn't just praise talent—he backed it by handing over tens of millions from his family fortune to the man he called the "Chinese Warren Buffett." Munger, the late Berkshire Hathaway vice chairman, first met Li Lu at a 2003 Thanksgiving dinner. While Li had a dramatic backstory as a Tiananmen Square survivor, Munger was most struck by his "capitalist aptitude." In 2004, Munger entrusted Li’s firm, Himalaya Capital, with $88 million, urging a focus on long-term value over short-term trading. The move paid off immensely; by 2023, the investment had grown nearly fivefold to roughly $400 million. "We made unholy good returns for a long, long time," Munger later remarked. At a 2018 meeting, he noted that Li was the only outside manager he ever trusted with his money, proving that for Munger, the right judgment was worth more than any diversification strategy. #charliemunger #berkshirehathaway #lilu #investing #personalfinance
