Microscopes hold the key to deepening our understanding of diseases caused by mycobacteria, like tuberculosis and leprosy (pictured here). But advanced imaging technologies are not widely available across the globe. Digby Warner and his colleges are working to change that by making microscopes more accessible and affordable across Africa.
Through initiatives like openScopes Africa, they are providing low-cost, flexible microscope systems, and comprehensive training to scientists. They hope that by providing access to these microscopes, researchers can study mycobacterium tuberculosis and develop innovative methods to control and even eradicate TB.
