This may look like an electrical storm or radioactive spaghetti, but this image is actually a tiny, yet complex, snapshot of the inner workings of a cell, revealing how its parts interact and function at a microscopic level. It was captured by imaging researcher Xiaoyu Shi with Label-Retention Expansion Microscopy (LR-ExM), a sophisticated sample-preparation methodthat enables deep tissue super-resolution microscopy, providing new insights into cell biology.
Xiaoyu and team are working on lowering super-resolution imaging costs, by spreading affordable tech globally so that more researchers have access to imaging like this.
