Video by bertiegregory | This was one of the calmer days at sea as we looked for whales off the coast of Elephant Island, in Antarctica. In order to launch drones and our little dive boat, we needed a maximum of 25 knots of wind—and ideally much lower speeds. The weather changed so quickly, and we were searching for whales over such a large area that we decided to simply adopt the "be in it to win it" approach. If the forecast showed even the tiniest window of less than 25 knots, we would smash out into the surf to make sure we’d be in the "whale area" during that time.
