Your vision isn’t big enough to recruit killers.
When you’re building a sales team without heavy base salaries or cushy benefits, vision does the heavy lifting.
If you tell candidates you’re going from $1M to $2M, that’s fine.
It’s not compelling.
Top salespeople aren’t looking for “fine.”
They’re looking for trajectory.
I worked with an owner who hit his first million and planned to “double again.” Reasonable goal.
But when we pushed him to articulate a 10X, 3-year vision, everything shifted. New markets. Layers of leadership. Real expansion.
He didn’t fully believe it at first.
But once he got excited about it, candidates did too.
If you’re offering a $70K base and benefits, recruiting is easier. Security sells.
If you’re offering upside and ownership, the future has to sell.
