Strong people are made not born.
Recently I was on a call with a group of predominately white female entrepreneurs. When we had to share an unusual fact about ourselves I shared I had climbed mountains for charities in my 20s. Everest Base Camp, Kili etc.
"Oh I didn't know that about you. I wouldn't have imagined that," someone quipped.
Interesting I wondered.
Is it because we only see white Bear Grylls types on the mountains?
Or is it because people simply can't imagine a petite brown woman having enormous amounts of f**king grit?
Or is it because if you happen to dress up glam one week people can't imagine you'd have the resilience to handle anything vaguely tough?
Either way ignore what people say to you and go be the person you want to be, not the person people think you are or should be.
Here's to you facing whatever mountain you have right now.
I see you. I hear you.
Keep breaking the mould, OK?
