Today is International Polar Bear Day! 🐻‍❄️🩷🐻‍❄️ We are proud to partner with polarbearsinternational to raise awareness about the polar bears. The first years of a polar bear’s life are the most vulnerable. Cubs stay with their moms for just over two years, learning as much as possible, including how to navigate sea ice, when and where to migrate, how to hunt seals, how to avoid danger and how to use their innate curiosity to learn new things. But, due to shrinking sea ice, mother bears have less time to hunt and struggle to build up adequate fat reserves to nourish their young, meaning fewer bears are making it to adulthood. Kali faced a different danger in the wild. This bear was orphaned as a cub near the Alaska Native Village of Point Lay, where residents rescued him and released him to the care of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in 2013.
