Polar bears are facing a new threat – and once again, it’s from the U.S. Congress.
As one of the United States’ core environmental laws, the Endangered Species Act has protected polar bears for over 50 years.
But now, there’s a bill in Congress that aims to weaken the act’s longstanding protections, putting these already threatened animals at far greater risk.
Protecting polar bears isn’t just about keeping an iconic species around. As apex predators of the Arctic, these animals help keep the entire ecosystem in balance. They provide food for scavengers, control seal populations, and consequently help keep fish populations stable. Without polar bears, the entire Arctic ecosystem could fail.
Prioritizing profit over irreplaceable wildlife is not progress — it’s a fast track to extinction. Add your name at the link in bio to show Congress these protections matter.
