Closing out an epic month of February saltwater bass catching in 90°, no wind and a 25lb bag (should have been more but I dumped an 8lber at the boat) in preparation for the pacificcoastsportfishingmag Shows! Winter fishing has been challenging and shown that this dynamic fishery is shifting. These fish are becoming wary, skittish and are acting more and more like finicky freshwater bass. This is all familiar territory for me, as this is what I've been used to fishing, pain in the ass largemouth in SoCal lakes since '92! Want to be a pain in the ass to bite something!? Bring it on, I truly enjoy the challenge of figuring out a bite. As my friends have been experiencing, it's not as simple as rigging up 5 random baits or some hype bait and having fish jump on. There is nuance, subtle mechanics and lots of small technical details that are truly making a difference at generating strikes, hooking those strikes and then landing them. These fish used to be idiots lol, but no longer. ...
