Why was one of the coolest cars Subaru ever built was also one of their biggest failures? Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and powered by a 3.3L flat six, the SVX was Subaru swinging for the fences in every possible way (baseball reference). That window within a window glass design was unlike anything on the road, the all wheel drive system was ahead of its time, and the overall package felt like a genuine statement car. On paper this thing had everything it needed to become a legend. However, Subaru made these 2 major mistakes that led to the program failing: 1.) They priced it against BMW and Mercedes when nobody was ready to spend luxury money on a Subaru. 2.) They delivered around 230hp in a car that looked like it should be much faster. And they never offered a manual transmission, which drove away the exact enthusiast crowd the styling was attracting. At the end of the day, the car looks amazing, but operationally, it's kindaaaaa whack. #fitmentindustries #carparts #subaru ...
