Tuukka Rask is a fan of the analytics 📊
On the TNT panel yesterday, former Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask was asked about save percentage being an ‘overrated stat’ by Paul Bissonnette, to which he responded that he prefers the statistic many have begun to use called ‘Goals Saved Above Expected.’
GSAx is used as a way to determine how many goals the goaltender saved above what was expected to be scored by the opposing team. Using historical data based on similar shots taken from location, angle, how it was created; all play a factor into the shots ‘goal probability’ and whether the goalie made the save.
