Happy World Wildlife Day!
Today we’re celebrating all the wild animals who share this big, living planet with us. We often like to sort animals into groups like “marine” and “terrestrial,” but the truth is that everything in nature is connected.
As marine biologist and author Rachel Carson wrote in her book Silent Spring, “In nature nothing exists alone.” Nothing survives by itself. Animals living beneath forest canopies depend on rain and rivers that carry water and nutrients to the sea. In turn, the ocean helps regulate climate and produces much of the oxygen that supports life on land.
We are all part of this living cycle, and we rely on wildlife both above and below the surface to help keep our world in balance. So today, we are celebrating every grizzly bear, jumping mobula ray, and all the people working to keep our fellow animals protected and thriving.
