Today, in partnership with the Melanoma Research Alliance, we share a few facts about this common skin cancer to help generate awareness around the importance of sun protection ☀️
Q: What is melanoma and what causes it?
A: Melanoma is a cancer of pigment-producing cells called melanocytes, which give each of us our unique skin color. Melanoma originates when the DNA in these cells becomes damaged.
Q: How common is melanoma and who gets it?
A: In 2021, more than 100,350 people in the United States will be diagnosed with melanoma. Anyone can develop melanoma, although it is more common in people with lighter skin tones.
Q: How can I protect myself?
