Ring Nebula 💍🌌 The Ring Nebula (M57) or NGC 6720, is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Lyra. It was discovered by Antoine Darquier de Pellepoix in 1779 and later cataloged by Charles Messier. The nebula is approximately 2,700 light-years away from Earth and is about 7,000 years old. It features a distinctive ring-like shape, which is the result of a dying star shedding its outer layers of gas. The central star, now a white dwarf, illuminates these gases, causing the nebula to glow. The Ring Nebula can be observed with small telescopes and appears as a small, circular, smoke-ring-like structure in the night sky.
